Tavoris Cloud, the current IBF light heavyweight champion, has finally been scheduled to defend his title against returning Jean Pascal, the former WBC light heavyweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on August 11, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view jointly promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM Promotions and Don King of Don King Productions. The ring for the Saturday night showdown will be set up at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and the show will be televised
live on Showtime’s weekly boxing ‘Showtime Championship Boxing’.
The event will also witness Adonis Stevenson, the WBC silver super middleweight champion, take on an opponent still to be decided in the co-headline bout of the fight card.
Cloud and Pascal recently met at the press conference in which the engagement was officially announced. Tavoris, 30, has been in a total 24 bouts and boasts an intimidating undefeated streak.
The American proud has nailed 19 of his opponents by knockout and proudly resides at third spot in the World Boxing Organisation’s light heavyweight rankings. Also known as ‘The Thunder’, the orthodox cloud will defend his IBF title for the fifth consecutive
time.
Cloud engraved his name on the title after nailing Clinton Woods via unanimous decision. Before that Cloud also achieved the unique feat of grabbing three vacant titles in the same bout.
Tavoris collided with Mike Wood with vacant USBA, NABA, and WBO NABO light heavyweight titles up for grabs. The Florida proud did swift work of Mike and grabbed all three titles by knocking him out in the very first round.
His opponent, Jean, 29, has been in a total 29 bouts and emerged victorious in 26. Pascal is making a comeback after the time lapse of almost 14 months. The Canadian proud has nailed 16 men via knockout and has ruled the light heavyweight division for a
pretty long time.
During the media interaction, Cloud stated, “This fight with Jean Pascal is a bout I’m looking forward to. It’s going to be what I call a ‘Release the Kraken’ match. Everybody knows I come to fight. What I like about Pascal is that he doesn’t fool around
either. When I look for him, he will be there, and the same goes for me.”
Jean, on the other hand, while thanking Cloud for accepting him as an opponent, commented, “Our styles make for the best, most explosive and spectacular fight possible in boxing. Having been away from the ring for more than a year, I am hungrier and more
determined than ever to get back on top. I am going to get back on the throne for good.”
The clash will definitely be an explosive one since both men are considered as divisions top-notch brawlers who have nailed and collided with many ace pugilists of the world. The rest of the pay-per-view will be announced in the upcoming days.
