How much will the government take out of your rebate check if you owe back taxes or back child support? Will they take a percentage or the whole amount, depending on how much you owe?

  1. They will take as much as needed to fully satisfy the debt.  So, they could take all of it if you owed more than the amount of the rebate.

  2. They'll take the whole amount, up to what you owe - if there is any left over, they'll send it to you.

  3. They take as much as needed to pay off the debt.  If you owe thousands in child support you are not going to see any stimulus check.  You will however get a notice informing you as to the amount of money that they took to pay toward your arrears.
