i have a 6 week old baby and currently on maternity leave getting standard maternity pay? i get child benefit but will i be entiltled to working tax credit? ( i usually work 20 hrs per wk ) also will i get child tax credit, as when i return to work i will need child care. also i have a council house so will i get housing benefit and council tax benefit, i am a single mother. Please note i am not use to benefits as i have worked full time from the age of 16 im now 25, just want to know what im entiltled to, many thanks

  1. Yes, from what you say you are entitled to Child tax credit and you should have been receiving working tax credit as well I think. Ring the helpline on 0845 300 3900 or the HMRC website on www.hmrc.gov.uk where you will find a calculator to check


  2. Benefits will be given if you are earning less than £140 per week. you will get child care no matter how much you earn. You cant claim tax benefits will on maternity leave but you should get rent/council tax benefits etc. Try the website www.entitled to.com

  3. You will definately be entitled to childs tax credits.

    You haven't mentioned whether you are sinlg or co-habbitting.

    So it is possible you could claim WTC.

    Housing Benefit and Council tax Benefit is means tested so you would have to apply to the council for these.
