We donate $100.00 to be given to our daughter's school as an award. Can we claim this as a tax donation deduction?

  1. If you give it to the school and have no voice in its distribution you may.

  2. A correct answer to your question requires more information.  A simple donation to the school is probably deductable.  A deduction for the award, will depend on whether the award is funded separately and has the proper IRS designation.  If you make the check out to the award, ask the principal.  If you make the check out to the school and note in the Memo line it's for the award, I'd take the deduction.

  3. You need a receipt from the school showing it as a deduction to a charity
