if my father gives me money to help me out once a month

can he write that off as a tax deduction

  1. no...but if he gives you more then 12,000 in a year, he might have to pay taxes on the additional gift over the presrcibed amount.


  2. No, of course not.  But you don't claim it as income either since it's a gift.

    Only gifts to a qualified charity are deductible.

  4. No.  The best thing that he can hope for is that it counts towards the "support" test and he may be able to claim you as a dependent.
