My friend contacted a company which refused to give him a 1099 since it was too late.

Assuming the company was lying about contacting the IRS and reporting ''1099 related info'' which sounds like a crock even to me however whats your outlook on it? and also he did file a sch C and put paid writing

and it seems unlikely that they did anything regarding a 1099 Is there a chance will be correspondence audited or pulled to the IRS because of it or will they just accept the amount of 923.00 at face value as reported?

  1. The IRS will be very happy that your friend is correctly reporting his income.  The IRS will not be able to check anything if the company did not file 1099s, which it sounds to me like they did not.  Your friend's tax return should not be flagged because they will not have any 1099 info to match to it.  Also, he did everything correctly so he has nothing to be worried about.  Even if he is chosen for a random audit, he will not owe anything additional regarding this income.

  2. Did he try contacting the IRS for the info?  I lost all of my w-2's for the last few years (i hadn't filed yet) and I just called and they sent me a copy.  The better think to do would have been to ask them first.  But since it is done, a call to the IRS would solve the problem.  They are very cooperative when YOU contact THEM rather than them having to come to you.

  3. I'll bet they accept it.
