Tax rebate question?

My parents put me as a dependant on their 2007 tax return because I live with them. I'm 20 and work full time and filed my own 1080ez.

I put my info on the IRS website and it said I should be getting getting $600. I have not recieved a letter yet and it said my check should be mailed out by the 27th. Will them putting me as a dependant mean I don't get a rebate check? Even if they didn't get the $300 for me?

  1. If you filled for the check in your own name and on your own wages, you should recieve $600.00 prob take 6 to 8 weeks.

  2. No one who can be claimed as a dependent by another person can receive a rebate.  Even if they did not claim you, the mere fact that they were eligible to do so is enough to disqualify you.  I did not make the rules.  Complain to your congressperson.

Also, no one (neither them nor you) can receive a rebate for a person who is over 16 AND can be claimed as a dependent by another person.

  3. Apparently you didn't put your info into the website correctly.  The very first question on the website is "Can you, or your spouse if filing a joint return, be claimed as a dependent on another person's return?" - if you had answered that "yes" it would have told you that you aren't eligible, not that you would get $600.  Dependents aren't eligible.

Yes, that's correct, since you are claimed as a dependent, you don't get a rebate check.

The other question though, which won't change now whether you get a rebate or not, is whether they can still claim you.  If you are not a full time student for some part of at least five months of the year, they can't claim you.
