  1. Hi there. I am on a similar salary, and you should be taxed around $8000 a year based on your salary. However, you can go to the Australian Taxation Office website and find a tax calculator and this should work your tax out for you: http://www.ato.gov.au/

  2. Hi,

I am a registered nurse in australia at the moment, although I do agency nursing.

Most places here pay on a fortnightly basis, you can expect probably $1500 AU per fortnight after tax, (that is a rough estimate based on type of shift and hours etc)

However in australia you are able to claim a lot of your tax back at the end of the financial year, nurses probably get 5-6k average (a very rough estimate again)

    Good luck

  3. Tax Rates for the year 2008/2009 are:

Taxable income :  Tax on this income

    $0 – $6,000 :  Nil

    $6,001 – $34,000 :  15c for each $1 over $6,000

    $34,001 – $80,000 :  $4,200 plus 30c for each $1 over $34,000

    $80,001 – $180,000 :  $18,000 plus 40c for each $1 over $80,000

    Over $180,000 :  $58,000 plus 45c for each $1 over $180,000

    Therefore:

    $48,000 = $4,200+(14,000*.30) = $8,400 in tax, plus another $720 deduction for Medicare (at 1.5%).  Total deductions being $9,120

If paid fortnightly you should get $1,495 net from a $48,000 salary.  Or $3,240 if paid monthly.
