Tito Vilanova’s bid to add the Spanish international to the Camp Nou dressing room suffered another blow as tax issues pile up for the proposed 40 million Euros move.
After the never ending saga of Cesc Fabregas’ return to Barcelona in the previous summer transfer window, the Catalan club are hogging headlines with their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao star, Javi Martinez.
La Blaugrana sporting staff have been told that the acquisition of the Basque national will cost them 40 million Euros, amount rival bidders, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, are more than happy to cough.
While the Catalan club are willing to pay his buyout clause of 40 million Euros, they are finding it hard to come to terms with the actual finances the operation will cost them.
The club have asked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 to waive off his right for part of the transfer monies that will go to him, which the player has understandably refused to comply with.
It is the question of taxes that is causing problems for La Blaugrana. Barcelona will have to pay an additional 7.2 million Euros over the actual cost of acquiring the player in VAT to Spanish authorities.
However, it is not where the lack of monies at the disposal of Vilanova and co. is affecting the club. The marked difference in taxation regimes in Basque country and Catalonia is causing problems for Barcelona.
In Bilbao, Martinez is under the obligation of paying 26% in taxes. The situation takes a considerable turn in Catalunya, where the taxation regimes are twice as in Basque country.
Taking the whole taxation environment comes into perspective considering that the Spanish star wants a 4 million Euros annual salary.
In order to fulfil Martinez’s wishes, he will have to be paid 8 million Euros by the Catalan club, putting him in the same salary bracket as Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629.
With the vast revenue streams, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 will not have a problem in giving Martinez what he wants but have to consider the precedent it will set in the Camp Nou dressing room.
Bayern Munich’s vocal interest in the player and their promise of a 7 million Euros net salary has made matters worse for the reigning Copa del Rey champions.
Camp Nou is set to be an interesting place in the coming weeks as the Catalan club increase their efforts to sign their top target, which should give La Blaugrana’s vendetta against Real Madrid in the media over off and on field behaviour a run for the money
in making headlines.
