if I live in NJ and buy a product/service in New YOrk to be delivered to my NJ address, should I be charged taxes?

  1. You should be charged NJ taxes.

    Keep in mind, retailers in NY are probably skittish--there were some court cases in the past few years were some sellers helped NYC residents avoid taxes by officially shipping the items to alternate addresses in NJ.


  2. If you live in State1 and buy something from somebody in State2 who does not charge you State2's sales tax, you owe State1's sales tax (actually called a Use Tax at that point).
