I know someone who is overseas and just finished a job. He got paid by an american check. But he said that he will go thru clearance to see if he paid taxes. He said it would be 2% of what he made. Is this true, please I need some help. I feel uncomfortable about this and I can't get thru the embassy over there since its after hours. I need to know the truth.

  1. Yes you need to pay taxes if you are american and making money in other country irrespective of currency.

I am not sure how much tax rate applies (it depends on income and is quite low)

You will need to file taxes just like everybody else, i mean file it and send it to IRS (or do it online), foreign embassies wont accept any income tax checks.

If the income is made in this year than you will file taxes by next April 15 like everybody does. And dont worry they wont detain you at the airport...they wont even bother.
