Taxi Driving in Costa del Sol?

How would you go about becoming a taxi driver in Costa del Sol - Benalmadena area? If you already have a taxi licence for another EU Country would this help? Is there an exam involved?

It's not easy at all!

I'm not sure if your taxi driver licence would apply here but the main problem it is to obtain a local taxi licence. Every single village or town administrates their taxi car licences. It means that, for example, Malaga will have 350 taxis and Torremolinos maybe 112. Licences can be purchased to other licenced drivers when they retires but you may spend a lot of money (150000€ is not a crazy amount here). Sometimes the town hall offers new licences but there is a huge waiting list for that and it doesn't happen very often.

So... if you really want to work as a taxi driver in Costa del Sol I'd suggest you to contact hotels or private transportation services (airport-hotels pick up and so). Another option is to contact a taxi driver with a licence and see if he wants to hire you to drive his car some hours but you wouldn't earn that much this way...
