Taxi around Rome?

I would like to get a taxi to show us several sights around Rome for a few hours before leaving the Fiumicino Airport. Does anyone know about how much they charge an hour or where I can find the information?

  1. It really depends on how much driving is involved in the few hours.  Taxiis can be very expensive and with the traffic they can be rather slow at times, too.  If you are going to some of the major sights then you can easily walk, even in a short time period (not to St. Peter's and the Vatican - that is a longer walk).  But there is also a subway system you can use.

If you will be there during non-rush-hour times then a taxi would be good, but definitely make sure you negotiate the rate BEFORE you get in otherwise they may add on additional expenses (and then claim they don't speak English and can't understand you when you attempt to pay them the posted fare!).

  2. Beware of taxi's. Ask for a flat rate. I went from the train statino to the airport and the guy told me 100 euros. I said I'll give you 60 euro max and he started driving away with my luggage. Luckily I chased him down and said ok ok and gave him the other 40 euros.
