Taxi drivers?

Why do taxi drivers have special permission to ignore laws such as wearing seatbelts, if carrying passengers or not, parking in the middle of the street, causing traffic holdups while they wait for passengers, use their car horn instead of going and knocking at the door to collect their fare, even late at night, using their mobile phones on the move etc?

  1. Well, most taxi drivers have failed the intelligence test, of course and taxi drivers don't even have to speak the language.

  2. bless em......

  3. the other day in london at about 2 am i was faced by an oncoming taxi that had jumped a red light to go around a bus.

the look on his face was priceless when he realised he had driven into the path of an 18 tonne truck,

if i was his passenger i'd have made him stop and would have got out without paying.

  4. Yep.  They are also permitted to break the speed limit and travel up to two inches behind anyone who doesn't in order to try to speed them up.

  5. massive generalisation, but seen all at one time or another...

not that i would do anything like that

  6. Whilst providing a much needed service, too many taxi drivers seem to believe that roads are there for them and them alone to earn a living on and everybody else should move out of their way. Mind you, they are not as bad as some of the drivers for Reading Buses that operate in the in the local Reading area.
