I have heard on and off that California is thinking about taxing people who own Hybrid Cars. Since people are not buying enough Gas and the Govn't has to come up with new ways to make money. I seen and heared this Statement from couple of people. Can anyone tell me where I can find an article on this, Taxing people who own Hybrid Cars. I know that there is incentive but not a tax on owning one.

  1. Just another example of how insane our government is.  Shouldn't the state of California be giving hybrids TAX BREAKS instead of tax increases since they're more fuel efficient?  The Republican party strikes again!  It's so discouraging!

Tax those Hummers and 1000 sq.ft. Homes-on-Wheels to the point of bankruptcy!  Their ego inflated owners need to be either taxed or shamed off the roads!  That's my answer to the problem.

  2. I doubt anyone will provide a credible source for this.  It sounds like an urban legend to allow SHV (suburban housewife vehicle) drivers to feel better.  Hybrid cars bet about 50 miles per gallon.  The owners still pay gasoline taxes just as any other driver.  The lower weight and drag of these vehicles would cause less road and highway maintenance that would more than make up for the difference in not paying gasoline tax on the gas they save.

  3. Just made up nonsense.

  4. sure, there will be a tax on mileage.

currently the "mileage tax" is built in to gasoline sales.

50-60 cents PER gallon in california is tax, federal and state, for road construction and maintenance. (2nd or 3rd highest in the nation)

with a hybrid or  other alt. fuels. (ng or EV) you pay very little to no taxes, but you wear out the roads, and need new roads, just the same as conventional cars.

    edit:

here's the links since i'm so incredibly stupid and have NO IDEA what i'm talking about.

FWIW -ken and bob, IF you read all these links, you'll find everyone of your claims are erroneous.

    EDIT-

    "....be giving hybrids TAX BREAKS....."

".....Hummers and 1000 sq.ft. Homes-on-Wheels....be either taxed or shamed off the roads!

    -babs

    interesting.

if you eliminate the ones who are carrying the state highway fund  AND give hybrids a tax refund, who's going to pay for the roads?

  5. I know that California tried to get people to conserve water and when they did a better job than predicted, the towns raised water rates because they weren't making enough money.

I've heard that California is going to change the tax to tax people on how much they drive because they don't make enough from hybrids.
