Taylor Knox defeats Jadson Andre in Round 2 of Rip Curl Pro Search – 2011 ASP World Tour
Rip Curl Pro Search Francisco, the 10th of 11 stops on the 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, kept delivering a heavy dose of thrilling action to the fans of surfing as America’s Taylor Knox squared off with Brazil’s Jadson
Andre in the 12th heat of Round 2 on Wednesday, November 2, at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, America.
The battle for the Round 3 spot turned out to be quite intense with both the surfers fighting tooth and nail for it. In the end, however, the vast experience of Knox came through and he walked away with top honours, advancing through into the next round
while bringing the competition to a premature end for his opponent, Andre.
The 40-year-old Knox may have been short of victories over the last few months, but he always managed to come up with a performance time after time to remind everyone why he is among the heavy weights of surfing. Coming to San Francisco for the latest stop
of the elite tour, the American surfer found himself with an opportunity to put his local knowledge of the waves to use and treat the crowd to a classic performance. However, that was not exactly how the opening day of the competition turned out and he ended
up losing to get relegated to Round 2. Still very much in the contention for the event-title so far, the victory in his Round 2 heat was crucial as the failure to get it meant elimination.
Standing between Knox and the Round 3 spot was Andre. The Brazilian had failed to come up with a strong performance on the first day and was now hanging on for life as he sought to secure his place in the third round.
As the 12th heat kicked off, Knox wasted no time in making a charge and locked a wave in the opening minutes to squeeze a 7.33 off it. Andre soon responded with a 6.00-point wave to keep the battle alive.
As the heat progressed, Andre added another 6.40 points to his account, moving to a heat-total of 12.40 points. The lead of moving into the lead was short-lived though as Knox unloaded a spectacular combination of tricks on a juicy wave to earn an 8.40,
taking his heat-total to a decisive 15.73 points. The 3.33-point victory over Andre sent him through into Round 3, while ejecting the latter from the competition.
With the conclusion of the twelfth heat, the line-up for the third round got completed. The battles were only expected to become more intense as the elite ASP surfers sought to get themselves as close to the event-title as possible.
