Taylor Phinney chasing the stage 1 victory at the Giro d’ Italia 2012
The first Grand Tour race of the season, the Giro d’ Italia is scheduled from May 5-27 and cyclists from all across the globe are warming up for the mega event.
Taylor Phinney of Team BMC is amongst a number of riders chasing their dreams at the Italian race.
The American is having a quite season and has not performed to his calibre in the first half of the season.
He secured the opening, team time trial stage of the Giro del Trentino and is optimistic to secure stages at the coming race.
Phinney is eyeing the opening stage of the race and is determined to fill his bag with the opening stage of the Giro d’ Italia 2012.
Team BMC is one of the strongest sides of the season and is amongst favourites to secure the starting stage of the race in Denmark.
Phinney told Cyclingnews, "I'm looking forward to this time trial. It's been a huge goal of mine for the whole year. I'm in a really good place to tackle it and I really want to win it”.
"I know that I can potentially change my life on Saturday. I can change my year, my career in a way and post my biggest result to date in just 10 minutes of racing”.
Taylor is also aware of the fact that he will face stiff competition from several super stars participating at the first three-week stage race of the year.
He briefed that Alex Rasmussen will have his home advantage as the Giro opener is scheduled in Denmark.
Phinney also noted that Geraint Thomas will ride the Giro after the victory at the Tour de Romandie and his confidence will be sky high which makes him a tough man to overcome.
"The biggest goal for the Giro is to try and finish it and tough it out for three weeks, but I just know I can win this first time trial,” he concluded.
The 21-year-old also briefed that that he will attempt to win the pink jersey and it will be the biggest achievement of his professional career.
