Taylor Phinney is positive for his second season with the BMC Racing Team in 2012
Taylor Phinney had always displayed splendid talent since the start of his career. He is considered as a bright prospect for American cycling and the cyclist is keen to live up to the expectations in the coming season.
Taylor caught the eye of selectors after his remarkable performances at the national junior track championships and the U23 Paris-Roubaix.
He started his professional quest in Trek-Livestrong colours and stayed with the team for a period of three years, 2008-2010.
Taylor made full use of the opportunity and filled his bag with a number of victories during the start of his professional career.
He secured the first position at the Under 23 Paris Roubaix for two consecutive years, 2009 and 2010, and also finished first at the Olympia’s Tour 2010.
The 21-year-old won four stages at the Olympia’s Tour, the first Prologue and stage1, 2 and 3 during the event.
Taylor made his World Tour debut with BMC Racing Team in 2011 and helped the American side with a fourth overall finish at the Eneco Tour.
He also claimed the second Prologue at the Tour of Romandie 2011 but there was a notable decline in his performance during the recent year.
The cyclist admitted that his start at the top level of racing was not as good as expected but he is positive to reach the next level during his second consecutive season with the team.
He told Cyclingnews, "Compared to last year I think that having a full year underneath me as a pro has been really important and I’m a lot more relaxed".
Phinney continued, "Last year I had a couple of knee problems and I didn’t really know what was required during the winter to get myself into the best shape mentally and physically”.
The American has already kicked off his 2012 battle at the Tour of Qatar and he finished the opening stage of the race at the 38th position.
While commenting on his previous season’s performance, he explained, "Having a season with 70 plus race days under my belt has made a huge difference".
BMC’s rider is currently sitting at the 43rd overall position after the stage 2 classifications and he is hopeful to improvise in the coming stages of the race.
A good overall finish at the Tour of Oman will help Taylor with the required confidence ahead of the new season.
