The tourists dominated the game from the second session of day two and completed their 167-run win in the final session on day five, to register their first Test victory on Sri Lankan soil in 14 years. The experienced trio managed a combined tally of just 44 runs in their six innings in Colombo, as Southee and Boult shared 15 wickets between them, recording Test-best hauls of 8-120 and 7-75 respectively.
While speaking to media reporters after his side’s comprehensive 167-run win, Taylor lavished praise on his pace arsenal and hoped there was plenty to come from the young seam attack.
"The batsmen have got a lot of criticism over the time but we haven't really had the bowlers to get 20 wickets in some tests," said the visiting skipper at the post-match press conference.
"But the three we've got at the moment, the three quicks, are very exciting and raw. I guess in Test match cricket that's exciting," he added further.
Taylor agreed that Southee was the obvious standout; however, he also had a word of praise for Boult and Doug Bracewell.
"Boult has only played a handful of games, but he continues to improve each match," said the Kiwis' captain.
"Even the two wickets that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394 got in the final innings were crucial wickets. Sangakkara and Jayawardene can bat a couple of days if they want to, so it's nice to be able to get them out early," concluded Taylor.
