Great Britain defender, Neil Taylor let out his anger at the Senegalese player, Saliou Ciss for his rash challenge on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471, during his team’s opening match of the Olympics football competition on Thursday.
The game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, saw tempers flaring up during the second half. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 winger, who netted the opening goal of the match, was brought down inside the area by Ciss via a ferocious tackle. However, the referee did not take notice
of the incident, as he saw nothing much wrong with the challenge.
Consequently, Taylor was involved in a ruction with a couple of Senegalese players, as he himself was at the receiving end of a tough challenge early on in the game.
Nevertheless, the Swansea City player unravelled his anger over the referee’s decision of not taking stringent action against Ciss for his rough tackle on Bellamy. He believed that not only should the match official have awarded a penalty kick to GB; he
also should have produced a red card for Ciss’s illegitimate stunt.
A disgruntled Taylor told the reporters in an interview, “It's a definite penalty; he could have broke his leg, I'm sure everyone could have seen that on TV. That's why I was angry, you can end someone's career in a flash like that.”
Despite raised tempers and untidy discipline from both the teams, the game witnessed just four yellow cards in total.
The 23-year old could not help but express his astonishment over the standard of refereeing in the game, claiming that at least three to four players would have been awarded a red card had it been a Premier League fixture.
Anyhow, following their draw against the African side, Stuart Pearce’s unit will now go head-to-head against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 in their next game on Sunday at the Wembley Stadium.
Talking of his team’s remaining games in the competition, the defender thought that they will need to improve on their finishing, and also overcome the disappointment of their opener.
He added, “We were the better team but we have to learn to close the game down. We're disappointed... at the moment it's hard to take.”
