Taylor losing his power as Canadian claims stunning victory
In what turned out to be a stunning encounter, it was once again the 15-time champion Phil Taylor who was defeated at the Cash Converters Championship in Hamburg.
This time it was World No. 98 Ken MacNeil who was able to make an exceptional breakthrough in the tournament by defeating the legendary darts player in opening singles.
It was not just Taylor but Lewis also who had to face departure from the championship after getting defeated at the hands of John Part.
Part, who was able to make an easy lead against the champion, was soon equalised by Lewis.
However, Part bounced back into the game and, with the help of a 140 finish, opened the account of defeats for Lewis since he became champion.
Interestingly, it has been Canada that has been able to bring some phenomenal performances.
After defeating Hungary by 5-3 in the first round, Canadian darts players were able to put up some jaw dropping performances after defeating the champion duo of England.
Nevertheless, the English duo still has a chance to make its comeback in the championship.
Events coming on Saturday will prove decisive about the fate of this partnership, which was termed as hot favourite before the event went underway.
In addition to this, defending champion Holland was able to give their side a positive start. In their opening campaign against Austria, they were able to grab a handsome amount of cash.
Represented by Barney and van der Voort, the duo was able to strengthen their position after defeating New Zealand.
Scotland, on the other hand, represented by Gary Anderson as the key contender, is encountering crests and troughs in its journey so far.
After facing an initial shock of defeat at the hands of South Africa, a comeback was made in the second match against Peter Wright by 4-3.
This was later followed by his second consecutive victory against Devon Petersen, defeated by four legs to one.
Along with this, Irish and Australian teams represented by key players like William O'Connor and Simon Whitlock were able to win their respective matches to give their teams the necessary breakthrough.
So far, the event has been filled with shocks. It will be interesting to see if the prominent English team will live up to the reputation and status that it has in darts.
