Great Britain and Swansea City defender, Neil Taylor refused to be downbeat following his country’s disappointing 1-1 draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 in their Olympic Games opener, insisting that they will look to bounce back in the next game.
Despite dominating the proceedings for a major portion of the game, Stuart Pearce’s outfit were forced to settle for a stalemate against the Lions of Teranga, after Moussa Konate deleted GB’s lead by netting a goal in the dying moments of the game.
The result allowed Uruguay to go to the top of Group A, after the South American team eked out a hard fought win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 on the same day.
Although the Welsh footballer admitted that his side were gutted on being denied three points in their opener, he urged them to translate their frustration into action during their next match against the UAE, and admitted that the match was like a do or
die situation for them.
He told the reporters in an interview, “We should have won — we know we should have won, but we can't be too downbeat… It's important that we get the three points tomorrow.”
However, the defender believed that GB were guilty of performing in patches and took their foot of the pedal in the closing stages, which allowed the African side to climb their way back into the game.
He also opined that in a major tournament such as the Olympic Games, a team needs to give due respect to all their opponents, irrespective of their size and stature, and make the most out of any chances that comes their way.
“It was a good first half for periods and it was a good second half for periods, but probably not for the 90 minutes and we need to be better overall in closing out the game… I don't think we quite did that and at 1-0 you're always vulnerable and I think
there was a little bit of naivety in the end.”
However, Taylor called upon his side not to panic following their draw in the opener, insisting that there was still a lot of football left to be played in the competition.
GB will take on UAE on Sunday in their next game, and will play their final group fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 on the 1st of August.
