Newcastle United defender Ryan Taylor is excited by the prospect of European football returning to Tyneside, and is looking forward to the second leg Europa League clash against Greek club Atromitos.
The versatile defensive player was part of the Newcastle squad that experienced relegation three years ago and had to play a full season in the second division of English football.
Newcastle did however bounce back after winning the Coca-Cola Championship and getting promotion back into the upper reaches of English football. The club went through a number of transitions but eventually managed to re-establish itself back among the big
names in English football.
The Magpies enjoyed their best campaign since the Sir Bobby http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robson-c31388 days in the 2011/2012 Premier League season and went on to finish in fifth place. They failed to qualify for the Champions League but still managed to achieve European football this season.
Taylor can’t believe that the club has bounced back so quickly and is eagerly awaiting the return of European football at Tyneside. The defender had helped his side to a draw in the first leg of the playoff against Atromitos through a wonderfully struck
free kick.
Newcastle go into the match with a vital away goal and Ryan Taylor believes that the club can go on through to the quarter finals of the competition. This is the first taste of European football that the club will enjoy since 2007, and Taylor knows just
what it means to the club and its supporters.
Speaking to the press, the 28-year old said:
"If you had said to me in a couple of years' time, Newcastle would be back on its feet, back into Europe and doing well in the Premier League, I would have snapped your hand off for it.”
"I have seen quite a few managers in the short space of time since I have been here and it's great as it is now.”
"We have got stability, we have got the fans back and we are playing good football and winning football matches, and that's the most important thing."
The club has enjoyed a fine start to the competitive season and will go into the game full of confidence as they target the Europa League Cup.
