Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor admits that the team’s home form remains a major concern for the club, and they must pick up their performances if they wish to move up the league table.
Last weekend’s home defeat against West Ham marks the team’s second loss at St. James’ Park this season. The Magpies have only won one of their last six games, and despite losing only two games so far, they have slipped down to 10th place.
This puts a major dent on their top 4 ambitions, especially considering last campaign’s impressive 5th place finish. Many of Newcastle’s players who had been in such good form last season have failed to replicate those performances, and have faded
since the season started.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hatem-Ben-Arfa-c15884 come to mind, who have managed to show faint glimpses of their brilliance, but failed to deliver when it really mattered.
The club has also been unlucky with injuries, with so many first-team starters out injured towards the season’s start. Ryan Taylor has been ruled out for the rest of the season, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Simpson, Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote only recently
made their way back into the side.
Coloccini is currently serving a three-game suspension, while Tiote is expected back for this weekend’s clash against Swansea. Both players were absent in the loss against the Hammers last week, and this had allowed West Ham to dominate the Magpies at their
own turf.
Steven Taylor insists that Newcastle need to improve and work harder if they wish to build upon last season’s surprising finish. The player said:
“We have to take positives out of Sunday’s games, move on to next week and put in a good performance for ourselves and the fans. The main thing is that we get the three points that we want.”
“Swansea are a very, very good team, so we are going to have to be patient."
Speaking about the West Ham game, Taylor added:
“It was nice for Kevin Nolan to come back. We are disappointed he got the goal, but we have just got to get on with it. He’s a very good player and he’s a goal-scoring midfielder. I don’t know why he hasn’t had his chance for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.”
