I recently bgt a Taylormade R7 Draw driver. The model number is R7 Draw REAX 55R 10.5.

How do I know if the driver I bgt is a j*p spec or an American spec?

How do you measure the length of the shaft (which point to which point?)

The guy at the shop says its j*p specs but I suspect otherwise. I am small built and having a j*p spec makes a whole lot of difference

  1. you can tell by the language on the shaft. If it is a japanese spec, it will be in japanese. if it is in english it is a US Spec. Use any words you want. j*p made sense to me.

  2. Typically the flex on a Japanese driver is the biggest difference that you will find. Japanese drivers are usually built with a softer shaft than what you would expect for that flex. A Japanese flex shaft will not necessarily have a shorter shaft, many Japanese don't get out on a course very often and therefore spend much of their time at the range. They have a tendency to hit their drivers and are more interested in getting distance. If you want to know the length of your club you need to measure your club grounded to the end of the grip and subtract 3/16" and that will get you a ballpark to how long your club is. If you take it to a shop they will measure the pin length to which you would add 7/16" of an inch to get you the ground plane length.

  3. j*p I think.

You can measure it in golf club shop.

  4. j*p is an offensive term to call the Japanese.

Now to answer your question, if you bought it in the US, it's US spec.  If you bought in Asia, most likely it's Asian spec, which is usually slightly shorter, and has lighter swing weight.

If in doubt, take it to a shop, like Golf smith and have it measured.  they do it for free, if you ask nicely.

  5. The j*p or USA specs signed to tell us which country they are made of. In fact, the j*p spec is perfect for asian golfer, so its shaft is shorter and softer than the US shaft. Sometime the assistant might advice you to use j*p shaft, as he or she wishes you to play golf comfortably.
