Tazeez well placed to win Darley Stakes at Newmarket
One victory in 18 months is hardly the most inspiring form but Tazeez can put another mark in the plus column after the Group Three Richard Hambro Darley Stakes at Newmarket.
The victory that Tazeez earned, in a conditions’ race at Newbury last month, was probably not as impressive as some of the five consecutive placed runs that preceded it. He was a neck second to Stotsfold in the Group Three Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May, one-and-quarter lengths third to Byword in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and two-and-a-half lengths third to stable companion Debussy in the Grade One Arlington Million in Chicago in August.
He is two from two over course and distance and Richard Hills is the perfect man to make the best of Tazeez’s front-running style.
Henry Cecil is going into what could be one of his biggest weekends in recent years, when he runs Frankel in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes and Twice Over in the Emirates Airlines Champion Stakes on Saturday. The stable is in flying form, with a 26% strike-rate for the month, and Timepiece can enhance that in the Listed Lanwades Stud Severals Stakes.
Cecil was convinced that this filly could be measured against many of the best that he had trained in recent years, despite three successive defeats at the start of the season. She finally came good in a Listed handicap at the royal meeting and comes out 4lbs clear on official ratings.
Golden Destiny has been improved for the application of blinkers in recent runs and can gain her reward in the Listed EBF National Stud Boadicea Fillies' Stakes.
