Question:

Tea vs. Soda?

I heard that staying off of sodas would help a person lose weight. I was in the habit of drinking minimum of two 32oz. Dr. Peppers a day and decided it was time to quit. I've been off of it for 30 days but have been drinking one 32oz sweet tea a day. Am I defeating the purpose or is the tea the reason i have been able to stay away from my sodas. I aslo drink Sprite and other soft drinks that don't have caffeine. Is this all the same or am I actually doing better?

  1. tea without the pound of sugar is good. Check the amount of sugars if you're drinking tea, because it'll surprise you.

  2. the tea drinking is ok as long as you dont drink too much... but drinking the sprites and such are not... its not just the caffine you want to stay away from its also the sugar and fats!

hope i helped and good luck!

  3. there basically all the same, so you got rid of some of the caffine but not all most teas have caffine and u dont lose weight just from stoppng that sodas even ones with no caffiene have a high amount of sugar in them and thats what makes you gain and retiain weight if u really want to lose weight stop drinking soda and tea all toghether and drink water all the time...i did it and lost a ton of weight in a short period of time and have kept it off.

  4. People always say that choosing tea over soda is healthier. Nobody realizes that its packed with just as much sugar and calories as soda!

  5. Well, the reason people lose weight when they stop drinking soda is because they're not consuming the massive quantities of sugar anymore. Unfortunately, you've just replaced sugar with more sugar, you've just cut out some caffeine.  Regular tea still has caffeine. You'd have to switch to unsweetened tea, or sweeten with stevia to get results. Ice water  with lemon is great, too. I'm not going to promote chemical sweeteners, that's why I didn't suggest diet soda, which studies have shown don't help with weight loss, anyway. Stick to unsweetened, flavored tea. I like iced green tea with spearmint, or cinnamon. Try mixing black, white or green tea with naturally flavored herbal tea bags for flavor. You won't miss the sugar, I promise ;). Good luck!

  6. You are basically defeating the purpose.  The reason why they tell you to stave off of soda if trying to lose weight is because soda has a lot of sugar in it.  You really need to stay away from all sodas (including Sprite) and cut back on the sugar (ie. sweet tea).  Stick to water or unsweetened iced tea...if you are in the mood for something fizzy, grab some seltzer and mix in some fruit juice--seltzer has no sugar and calories and will satisfy your fizzy craving.

  7. Sweet tea has as much sugar as soda, so you're not doing yourself any good.  You need to drop the sweet drinks altogether if you want to lose weight.  Whether or not something has caffeine has no bearing on whether it'll make you gain or lose weight.
