I will be moving to Cairo in a few months and am looking for a job to sustain basic living expenses. I have no background in teaching English, but would like to get some experience. Do you have contacts? Suggestions?

I am fairly proficient in Arabic and have lived in the Middle East before.

  1. I'm honestly not able to give suggestions, i just wanted to tell u that job hunting in Egypt won't be very easy due to high unemployment rate, so u have to be patient, Good Luck

  2. if English is your mother languish

and u are native speaker then do not worry at all

u do not need experience at all and i can get u a job in perlits institution for 3000 pounds as a start which is alto in Egypt

plus u can work in kinder gardens and English schools

  3. Hi Zoe, I am English and have taught in Egyptian schools. You need a degree to impress the owners of the shools. But really their main interest is your English accent. They like to offer potential parents a native English speaker to teach their kids - so that the kids will speak English in a good accent. - or at least to help them try. Mimicry - it works.

If you dont have a degree, you could do a short course in TEFL, this can be done online. If you have a certificate for this it will help you get a job in Enlgish speaking nursery schools. Also some school owners may accept you to teach English in their schools to certain age groups if you have this certificate.

As you speak native English you will be able to earn from 1,500LE to 4/5.000LE. Which is not really fair as Egyptian teachers who are qualified with a degree cannot hope to earn that much (their level of pay is more like 250/300LE, but that is how it is in Egypt. So you could earn good money to help you sustain an enjoyable life in Cairo.

    Good  luck.

    :)
