Hi, I am wanting to go to Thailand and teach English. But wanting to do the course here in Australia first. Has anyone ever done a TELF or TESOL course and gone overseas? What was your exprience? What course provider did you go through?

  1. not yet, I completed a tefl course through i-to-i online. I'm not sure if it's helpful or not though, because i'm still saving up to go somewhere.

  2. I have a TESOL and worked in Thailand for a year.  Great experience!

However, the TESOL did not really help with getting the job, it was my degree and experience in Korea.  Thailand has so many teachers that come and go and it is so easy to get a TEFL or a TESOL certificate.  Do not expect to find the best job and be prepared to do a lot of searching.  Further, some important news, Thailand is changing.  Last year they introduced a new law that only permits a regular visa 3 out of 6 months.  If you do not get a LEGAL working visa this may cause troubles.  Also, next year, Thailand is introducing a mandatory 'Thai culture course' along with teaching credits.  This may cause problems.  Read the article in the source below for further details.
