  1. IT'S NOT TO HARD BUT DON'T BE SO HARD ON HIM TEACH HIM AS A GAME WHEN YOUR DRIVING COUNT THE CARS OR WHEN YOUR SHOPPING WHEN YOUR GIVING HIM SOMETHING CHILDREN LEARN BY PLAYING WITH THEM SO TRY IT LIKE IF IT WAS A GAME THAT'S WHAT I DID TO MY 4 YR OLD CHILD

  2. My website has lots of free printables:

Animal Alphabet Puppets to make on a stick:

Letter Templates for learning the alphabet:

    Number templates and/or coloring pages:

We have lots of other fun activities that are free to print.

Just make sure you make it fun and he will learn!

  3. buy her on of thoose big puzzels that have number on the front and letters on the back. wen u put them together say it together!

it makes a big square. sit inside it and say the letters together

  4. Say it letter by letter, and give a example of what starts with that letter.  For example, for the letter E, show a picture of an elephant, an egg or an elbow.

  5. It really is mostly just all about repetition and making it fun. Don't spend too much time- watch his cues and if he gets tired, go on to something else. Another suggestion I have is to SAY the letters, not sing the ABC song. Most schools do not accept the kids singing as knowing their ABCs. Try to point out letters as often as possible and remind him for example D- dog. Dog starts with the letter D. Do you hear the D sound? D-dog. I do that as much as I can with my little guy who is also 3 and he memorized all his letters by age 2 and can now identify about 20 out of 26 letters when I write them on paper. Play as many games as you can. I bought magnetic letters and numbers at the dollar store. I actually bought 2 sets of letters because there are a TON of games you can play with them! Set out approximately 10 letters on the floor. Then call out a letter and see who can pick it up first! Of course, I almost always let him win. This builds up his confidence. Another thing to do is look in magazines and cut out pictures of things that start with a certain letter. With numbers, my kids always enjoy graphing with m & m's or fruit loops. You can have him sort them by color, count them, which color has more, less, etc... Hope this helps!

  6. Like egg hunting.  Buy some alphabet and numbers mixed together.  Teach one at a time then throw it back to the box and have him go search for it. It's fun and learn fast.

  7. I don't think you should be 'teaching' a 3 year old letters and numbers. 3 year olds need to do lots of playing with real things, drawing, reading books, singing etc so they can achieve all the pre-reading, pre-math  and pre-writing skills they need before they develop literacy and numeracy skills. While your child may memorize letters and numbers by rote, they will not necessarily develop an understanding of the concepts if they haven't had the real, concrete experiences beforehand.

You can't expect to bake a cake without all the correct ingredients- no different to a child's learning.

  8. Look up Jolly Phonics....its a great way to teach children letters and reading skills. It's based on phonics/letter sounds which supports the child when they start putting letters together to form words. Teaching the child that A=ay isnt going to help in words like 'apple', 'ant', 'and' which are all "ar/ah" sounding...A is the name a is the sound.

As for numbers I do it through play-build blocks-usually two towers and count how many we have, which is tallest, smallest...or we build and count until it falls down and then try to build it bigger. Chidlren learn numbers through practice and practicising through play makes it more fun and less intimidating!

Have a look at this website:http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/eyfs

It's what English 0-5yrs olds work towards in preschools, nursery and reception!
