Question:

Teach me how NOT to be a perfectionist. Help!?

I finished an essay, thought my handwriting wasn't neat enough. So I crushed the paper and rewrote it. But I wasn't satisfied after the second time either. This process took place for 4-5 times, until right at this moment, I'm still not satisfied with my handwriting in the essay.

It's driving me nuts. Because of this, I worry I may not get it done by the due date. HOW!????

  1. You can always type the essay, rather than focusing  on your handwriting. There ya go!

  2. Start to learn something you like: a foreign language or playing an instrument.

It's always learning by doing. You will never be perfect unless you accept to be imperfect for years, probably forever.

Keep this in mind with everything you do.

  3. okay......you need to take a chill pill and RELAX.......these tiny little things are not worth pulling your hair out for and if your so bummed about your hand writing, type it! but of course, if it has to be hand written then dont fret! as long as it is elligible hand writting it will fine. teachers mark essays on their content and structure, not on neatness.

oh and just calm down. dont worry about what other people will think. do it to your standards and then leave it

    peace out

  4. concentrate and take your time, or just type it.

  5. Okay here:

Ask what's really needed. Is the real purpose to be perfect or produce a perfect result, or is it to get something done? What really matters? Perfectionism can often be the opposite of a timely result, because the uncertainty that comes with it leads to procrastination. Define a goal. Knowing what you want to achieve not only helps you go in the right direction, but also helps you know when you are finished. Recognize that for many activities, especially anything with an element of creativity, there is no one 'right' way, no one 'right' answer. If you're evaluated at all, it is subjectively. You cannot possibly please everybody who reads your writing or gazes at your painting, for instance. While keeping an audience in mind can help give your work direction, you should also allow for a large element of personal expression and style. Recognize the beauty and benefits in imperfection. Dissonant harmonies in music can create tension and drama. Leaves left on the ground insulate plants' roots and decompose to nourish the soil. Reflect on your failures. Failure is relative. Perhaps you thought your cookies were a bit overdone, but everybody else gobbled them up. As the doer, you probably know more about what went in than anybody. Whoever benefited from your work cares more about the result and may never even notice the process. In addition, consider what you learned from your failures, and how that will help you do a better job next time. Reflect on your successes. Think back to something you have done or made that was successful. It may not have been perfect, but it still achieved a goal or objective. Probably you experienced some uncertainty along the way to creating that success. Your reservations and concerns may keep you out of trouble, but don't let them drag you into inaction. Rather than do a few things perfectly, accomplish many things successfully.

Actually you'll certainly finish your essay in the very end even if you are a perfectionist. you'll just going to pass a rush work. but dont stress those tips will help you. : )
