Teacher Assistant pay ranges from 14,000 to 22,000. How much should I ask for?

I have a B.A. and over 2 years of volunteer experience as a teacher assistant.

  1. starting out you would start at low end of scale and work up to the high end.


  2. In my state it is not what you ask for but what they give . There is a pay scale which is followed and periodically there are contractual increases.

  3. If 22 is the max you can get, I'd get a different job.  $11/hour? I make more than that by data entry.

I actually just got a teaching assistant position.  However, it was not my first choice- I was looking for a teaching job but evidently they are hard to come by in my area.  I am pretty sure that teaching assistants pay, just like teachers pay, goes by a pay scale based on experience.  Good luck with your job!  I know that I am excited to get some experience and have fun!
