My school (big Spring school, PA) are going on strike may the 28th. I heard that it can only last 5 days then they have to come back. But i also heard after they come back they can go on strike for how ever # of days they want. Is this true? What all can teachers do on a strike? like how long can they last and info on that.

  1. Actually, Southern Yankee expressed more opinion then fact.  Teachers strike for various reasons, anything from money to benefits to prep time to anything.  They don't receive any pay from the district, but they feel it is a necessary step to avoid being taken advantage of.

  2. Teachers can and do go on strike UNTIL they get what they want, no matter how long that is, or when they give up.

They could have decided themselves how many days they will do this.

I don't think there is a law stating how many days they have to go on strike, I don't think they HAVE to stop at a certain time.

  3. Strikes happen when people think they are being treated unjustly. They think there is more money. The union cares not for the children, although they will champion them. They care about MONEY. pure and simple. most teachers are not given a choice when they become part of a school that has a union. Strikes should be a last resort. Bad part is they think the union is watching out for them. Sad to say, but the union is only looking out for the union. They will get their "pound of flesh".

  4. With a teacher strike they can last as long as both sides can't agree. The teachers do not get paid for striking, strikes only last for about a week or so, after that point the schools can not handle all of the those students without teachers, and they come to a middle ground. Wish your teachers luck, this is how they get pay raises and better benefits.
