I am going to be enrolling in a program in which I will earn a Masters in Education and teacher certification in the state I reside in. However, I am thinking that shortly after I finish this program, Id like to move to another state, what steps does one take in order to get certified in one state, if you already have certification in another state?

  1. I've done this 3 times.  Simply call the Department of Education in whichever state you wish to move, and ask them what has to be done become certified in their state...they give step by step instructions, and will send all forms to you.  The involement differs from state to state, but you'll have no problems.   Good luck.

  2. You can even go to the DOE website of the state you are moving to.  They will have information on for you. Most of the states offer reciprocity (of sorts)  to a NASDTEC INTERSTATE CONTRACT which allows for easier transition in licensing between states. I moved from Colorado to Vermont with no problem, I just had to be re-fingerprinted again, fill out the application, send in the money...and it was done!  Sometimes, the new state might require additional Praxis exams or something if you don't have #x years of experience...but generally, it isn't too much of a problem.

    Good luck!
