Or is he pretending to not know my name?

On my report by the comment he wrote he obviously knows my name, but in class he doesnt? when handing back tests he'll give everyone elses directly to them, leave mine til the bottom and call my name out then he gives it to me, I just dont get it. He never calls on me for answers (I never volunteer and am quite quiet in class) but looks my in the eye then asks someone else, i just dont get it, Why is he ignoring me? or why cant he remember me? its kinda annoying

  1. Don't take it personally.  I've been teaching for almost 30 years, and by now, every student looks like 10 others I've taught over the years.  Very often, when I want to talk to a student, his or her name just doesn't come to mind, and instead I get a name in my head that I know belongs to someone else.  I don't want to call them the wrong name, so I just don't call them by name at all.  That doesn't mean that, given a list of students, I don't recognize their names.  It is easier to recognize something than to recall it.  Give me a list of student names, and I can visualize what each one looks like easily.  But give me a sea of faces, and I may have trouble telling you each of their names.

This isn't only true of students.  I was talking to a woman at work the other day, and I kept wanting to call her one name, even though I know her name is something else.  I think I just know too many people by now, and sometimes the face I know and the name I know don't come together correctly in my mind.  My solution is not to use a name at all until I have the right one in my head.

  2. If you have ever gone to university, you will find that a professor not knowing a student's name is not uncommon.  They sometimes have a class of over 100 in a lecture hall.  They don't even know if you attend or not, unless the whole class doesn't show up.  An elementary, middle, or high school, that is different, and hard to believe that the teacher doesn't know your name.  They could be ignoring you.

  3. Put your hand up then.

    Make an effort.

How can you expect him to make an effort when you're not?

  4. You might want to ask him that.  If he doesn't give you a good reply report him to the principal.

  5. probibly because you dont volunteer to answer and he is looking at you to give you a chance.  Next time answer a question. or ask him whats up his A$$.

  6. I have been teaching for 15 years and sometimes I just have a mental block on names. If someone has their hand up and in that instant I can't recall their name, I will either call on someone else or revert to calling them "hon" or something like that. This doesn't mean I am those names some of the other answerers called your teacher, and doesn't mean I am uncaring or need to be reported to the principal. It is an unfortunate result of having 120 student names in my head and like a computer with too much data and not enough RAM, sometimes I freeze up. Since this seems to happen to you a lot, you probably need to participate in class a little more so your teacher has something to tie your name to in his memory. Be patient! You'll get old someday too! :)

  7. Write down everything this teacher does, give it to your parents and tell them to have a meeting with this teacher AND the principal, both together.

This is uncalled for. I HATE how teachers have this 'power trip' with kids.

So much for our tax dollars.

  8. I think your teacher sounds weird.

Is your name hard to remember or pronouce or something?

    That might be why.

They might just avoid asking you questions because they are afraid they will pronouce your name wrong.

    Anyways, good luck!

  9. hes an a$$hole

ive had a teahcer like that

he would call me boy and not my name but he would know my name when he saw me in the hall

he would be like...you uhhh boy here ur paper

and when he see's me in the hall he's like

    "josh stop running"

    im like WTF man

    u got alzheimer's????

  10. he probably doesn't know your name, when you write a report you put your name on it, he writes according to what you put on as a name. Maybe he doesn't quite know you because you don't get involved in class discussion or participate, he's not ignoring you, he just wants to engage you in class so you do better. He can't remember just you, he has more students to teach, it's not all about you in a class of learning, it's about you and the whole class.

  11. probibly because you dont volunteer to answer and he is looking at you to give you a chance.  Next time answer a question. or ask him whats up his ***.

  12. Dude lucky about not being called on... but your getting owned by the teacher hahahahahaaha

  13. he doesnt remember you or call on you because you are too quiet.

Talk to your teacher, re-introduce yourself and find a way to relate to him. Talk to other people in your class as well. If he hears you telling stories or discussing something with a classmate he is more likely to remember that story and you1
