Teacher to Corporate?

This year will be my 5th year in the class room teaching remedial reading. I have a BA in English and MA in Curriculum and Instruction:Reading. I am burned out and the economy is bad. I am considering attempting to teach in Australia. If I remain stateside, I would love to enter Corporate America. What is some advice from some teachers who have made the move? I live in FL and have a Facial Specialist Certification, but has not ever used it. I am willing to relocate as FL has become a desolate land. I am having trouble finding and executing my vision in this downturned econonmy.

PS. I taught grades 6, 7, 8, and 10 if that is any help in providing advice.

  1. I know the feeling; I got out while I could.  I know many burned out teachers who are stuck where they are because of how much money they're making, how many years they've put in, their Master's degrees, etc.

I'm now an office manager (I don't know what you're going after in Corporate America) - worked my way up.  I had to reword my resume to reflect the change of vocation - focus more on "business terms" ('team player', 'organization', 'leadership').  After that, get your name out there.  Take a few night classes if you feel they're needed for whatever you're after.

I don't regret my years of teaching/daycare, and I REALLY don't regret leaving it.  It was a life-altering decision, but worth it in the long run.  And, I still deal with 3rd graders - they're just taller and make more money!
