Question:

Teacher took away kid's snack?

Okay, so my niece is in kindergarten and her teacher is very into health foods. Totally fine - but one day my niece brought yogurt to school for her snack. The teacher grabbed it from her, read the label, and told her she couldn't eat it because it had dye in it! She actually threw the yogurt in the garbage... has this happened to anyone else's young relatives/children? What do you think about it?

  1. I think it is totally wrong! It's not the teacher's place to try to push their food beliefs on students. In fact plenty of things have dye in it.

  2. Her motives may be noble, but she is not the parent so it's not her choice. If that was my kid, I would make a point of going to the school in person and telling her in front of the principal or some other witness that she is not allowed to throw away my child's food due to personal beliefs... I am the parent and what I decide is fine for my child is not her concern. Teachers have a hard, thankless job and put up with alot of c**p, but policing a kindergarteners' snack sent from home is not part of their job description. Be polite, but firm.

  3. I think that teacher should be reported. That is not her call.

  4. The teacher behaved completely inappropriately. She caused the child embarrassment and questioned the child's mother's judgment in front of the child. If she was really concerned, she should have sent an inconspicuous note to the mom. I would be furious.

  5. Omg! Thats not good! if ii had a daughter hu got hur snack taken off her because it had dye in it i wud be mad!

Yougurts are meant to be health!! aswell

x i would go in and speak to the head about this if its not too late x

    GoodLuck x

  6. That was so not OK. My children's school provides snack and they eat yogurt a lot. Call the principal. If she had a Milky Way bar that would be one thing but yogurt is normally considered healthy.

  7. i would go and shout becuase your nice has got the right to eat the yogurt and the teacher dosent have the right to thorw it away so go tot he school and complain about it

  8. First off who does this teacher think she is to make a decision like that...it isn't her call...and yogurt is a healthy snack.

I would get in contact with the school and set up a meeting with the principal and the teacher......I would never tolerate such a thing ever.

  9. WOW This teacher had some nerve. Please report her and have a talk with her asap. She has no right to try and push whatever she believes on anyone. OMG I think i would have to whoop her *** about my child. Let me stop now bf i get more upset . Please handle this.

  10. I think it was terrible that the teacher threw it away.  I know they like kids to bring healthy snacks to school, but it's not like it was candy or chips.  I'd be in there talking to the teacher if it was my kid.

  11. that is awful. I would be really mad.

  12. no but my daughter's school has rules about what they can bring for snack. no candy, cookies, cake. no drinkable yogurt (too messy) but if they dont have the proper snack they have to put it back in their backpack and the teacher always has extras. I would check with the school about snack rules. also, talk to the teacher. 6 year olds dont always get the truth correct.

  13. I think it depends on the full situation. Were the parents given a list of acceptable foods to bring to a group environment at the beginning of the year? If so they are aware of the rules and are ignoring them.  My cousin(age 5) had her soda tossed at school which was highly appropriate.

  14. That is actually robbery. Taking something by using force and intimidation off another person is robbery. That is illegal and you can report her!

  15. I would contact the teacher first and give her a chance to explain herself. If she can't give you a better or acceptable explination I would contact the principal. There is nothing wrong with a yogurt. It is a very healthy snack. It's not like your niece brought candy as a snack. The teacher had absolutely no right to touch her snack. If the teacher wants to be a health nut and not eat food with dye in it that's fine but she can not force her ideal onto a 5 year old child. I wonder how many other kids she has done this too? Something needs to be done!

  16. uhhhh the teacher needs to replace the yogurt and writen up.  some kids dont eat their lunch so snack is the only food they get till they get home.  what if your niece didnt like luch that day and the the teacher took her snack away?  her parents need to bring this to the attention of the school

  17. I would complain to the Principal. The teacher has no right to impose her beliefs on the child, or to deprive her of food. It's one thing to say "No Candy in School" and another to act as this kind of fanatic.

  18. Crazy. Talk to the leader of the kindergarten. I'd expect a replacement yoghurt.

  19. Oh, wow, if I was a parent I'd be really mad. You sent your kid to school with that snack and she had no right to throw it away.

  20. Mom needs to have a heart to heart with that teacher

  21. The only time a teacher has a right to throw away a child's food is if he brought something that contained substances that classmates were known to be allergic to, such as peanuts.  Otherwise, unless there is a statement in the school handbook that dyes are not allowed, the teacher has no standing to do what she did.  I would talk to the teacher first and then go higher if necessary.

  22. If a child takes a snack to school then it is theirs to eat.  No teacher or school official had the right to take away her snack she brought from home no matter what it was.  If I was the parent I would deffently set up a metting with the teacher and principle. I would let it be known that it was not acceptable for her to dispose of my childs yogurt and that if it happened again my child would be removed from her class.

  23. The main thing is the Teacher made a spectacle of your child and THIS IS WRONG!

My little boys teacher , a male , writes in GREAT BIG LETTERS in his daily bookfor all to see!!!!   This infuriates me!!!  My son is an A student and not only was i initializing his reading every single day.....he said " You are staying in for recess because you been here long enough to know your Mom has to sign it, put the title of the book and how many miunutes every nite"   WHAT!!!???

He never EVER said that, AND on a little bitty square the size of that yahoo down there im supposed to write all that every nite?

Since when is my childs homework MY priority? Seems to me all we get DONE is homework and we have no time for ANYTHING else. period.

  24. that would make me mad too and i would have a discussion with the teacher and principal and say why does she feel she can throw away food i have provided for my child? I am her parent and doing my best to make sure she has the best according to my ability.

it is not that teachers place to try and be a parent to that child regarding what i would provide as his or her mother, you know?

that's the basic point in that situation really.

  25. my baby is only 7 months and if this would have happened to her i would have been extremly upset.  its not the teachers decision on what her STUDENT eats.. its her mothers/fathers.  i understand the teachers intentions but to have a 5 year old not havea snack cause it has dye in it and throw it away is rediculous, im sorry.  its like punishing her.. she doesnt get to eat a snack because mommy or daddy packed her something that wasnt ok for the teacher.

if i were the parent i would probably have a talk witht he teacher or the princaple..

  26. that is not the teachers call to make!  the mother should call the school and have a meeting about that.  we are being dictated to way too much as far as what we can do with our kids...yogurt???  our school has strict policies too - to a point i can understand, but this is a sign that it is getting way out of control.

  27. tell this to the principal.

    Plz answer my question. Thanx!

  28. Not at all appropriate..Please contact the school authorities. That kind of thing should not happen.

  29. That is crazy! Sounds like the teacher has a few screws loose or something. If she had a problem with it she should have called the parents first...after all they sent her to school with it. But she had no right to through it away. Plus what does dye have anything to do with it. There are so many foods that have dye in them.

  30. i thought yogurt was good for kids. i dont think she should have took it away. maybe later if she is so concerned she should speak to the parent about it.
