I have been tutoring 4-9year old kids in brain development using maths. You do get kids who do struggle a bit & I do try my best to keep up with worksheets.

This year I was given a class where 3 of them were finding it a bit difficult. I had paid my full attention & had a meeting with 2of the parents. The 1mother had come out of hospital & was in recovery when she came for the meeting (I had told her to come once she was fully recovered & that it was really not important & that her health is more vital, she had come despite this) I had explained to her what we do in class & what she could moniter him at home by doing.Everytime there is a new concept she comes in & we have a chat about it. Her son is now moving at a faster pace & is achieving in leaps & bounds.

At a staff meeting was asked what had done,I had told them about meetings & that I don't give up on any of my kids & that I believe they can all do it. The mother even asked the same question as to why I believe in her son

  1. Absolutely not !!!!!!! We NEED people like you to encourage kids who have problems learning... I truly believe that if you give these kids positive thoughts they WILL learn.. It's no wonder these poor kids can't learn something when the parents themselves don't believe in them... GOOD JOB!!!!

My daughter(she's 12) has a problem with math and although I tell her ALL the time that she can do it she thinks she can't..

    Keep up the good work!!!

  2. This is a public school, right? Doesn't surprise me a bit.

    The idiots.

Schools and teachers are the MAIN ONES who ARE suppose to be doing what you do, but THEY are the ones who knock the kids down!

Remember, WE as TAXPAYERS are paying their PAYCHECKS to do this to OUR own children with OUR OWN money!!

  3. You're the kind of teacher every parent wants their child to have. =]

  4. no you are not wrong. I work at a school for children with special needs and even when the child is diagnosed with a terminal illness and we know (not think) know they will die then we will take every special day that we have with them and make the best of it just like nothing was going to happen.

going against the grain is usually the best way to go!

good luck and we all support you

  5. There should be more teachers like you out there. I think that it is wrong for anyone to tell you that you don't have the right to BELIEVE in those children and their abilities. You have every right to believe in whoever or whatever you wish, and I think that you are better for it.

If my college professors believed in me and guided me rather than telling me I have no business teaching, then I'd be a teacher right now. Instead I dropped my teaching major.

  6. No, you are not wrong.

How long has the other teacher been teaching?  Sounds as though she is burned out.  And it sounds as though the mother has been told so many times her son is a failure that she has come to believe it herself.

    What a sad situation.

  7. I am a teacher (only in my 3rd year) and I believe in the same things as you.  Teachers with this belief are the teachers who make a difference.  I want children to succeed and each child can as long as they have the support and guidance they need.  Each child is different and has different learning styles and needs.  You keep up the good work and making the kids and parents believe in themselves again! Good job (as for the co-workers...they are probably the type of teachers who feel there is only one way of teaching and they never try to change...they never will, so don't let them bother you. Just keep your focus on your students)

  8. Your not wrong for thinking it.  I'm a Head Start teacher and if I didn't believe that I was making a huge difference in the kids lives...I couldn't do it.  All children need is faith, love, and dedication.

  9. You are not wrong to believe in your students. I wish there were more teachers like you out in the school systems.

Keep on believing and you will help alot of students

  10. h**l no! obviously your there for the childrena and theyre there for the $$$$! good job to you! i wish you could be my childrens teacher!

  11. No its teacher like you who make teaching special! Keep on believing and dont give up on any of them.

  12. You're not wrong for believing in the kids. I do hate to see it when kids are pressured and pushed to breaking point to do something that they are not capable of doing (or should I say, that they are not YET capable of doing). However, with loving training and hard work, anything is possible! It's great that you put in so much effor with the kids. As long as you are teaching at a level that they can cope with, and can move at a pace appropriate for that child, it's great that you can believe in them.

  13. Its the difference between standards and expectations. Standards are benchmarks to measure the student and to make sure they are progressing along. We need realistic standards to help the children learn without discouraging them. But you have higher expectations that go beyond the standards. You see the potential of each child and work with them to live up to it. Thats what every good teacher should have- high expectations.

Your colleagues believe in realistic standards but unfortunately do not have high expectations that you do. They are afraid to set the students up for failure with high expectations. They see that school is only there to socialize them and fulfill a lower place in society. You believe that school is there to prepare both the parent and child for success beyond any limitations they might have. Keep working hard. You might have some students who dont work up to your expectations but many more will so it is worth the effort.

  14. I have great problems with teachers BUT>>>>>

If there were more like you, rather than the teachers who just do it for a job, then the pupils where you are, are very lucky. never give up on children, as long as we can make them the best they can be then you have done your job and won a little meddle. good luck RR
