I am a transgender and I little shy to let my professors know about it. In the past, teachers have been hasher to me and I have given me a lower grade in the course because they disapprove of my lifestyle. Does the roll sheet have my s*x on it or does it just list my student number and name?

Please give an honest answer

If anyone knows it would be every helpful.

  1. if a professor is giving you a lower grade than you deserve based on your lifestyle, or for anything besides your grades, that's discrimintation and he can be fired for that.

  2. Yes.  Teachers do know the gender of the student based on what's on record in the school.  Not to be rude, but as a teacher I do like to know the gender of my students.  With certain names, sometimes it is hard determining the gender and I wouldn't want to embarrass a student.  With young students, such the ones I have (7-8 year old), if a boy has long hair or a girl with very short hair, there is no physical way to determine gender.

You'd have to have your gender changed on record to your preference.  Irregardless, the professor should not grade you based on your lifestyle.  You should dispute any error you feel in your grading asap to the school administration.

  3. Why would you need to tell your professors?

I see it as your own personal life and not your professor's business unless it is a sociology class where they ask you share a bit of yourself.
