On a bus trip in Australia, the bus stopped at a cafe. I stood up and asked my daughters, 'Does anyone need to go to the lavatory'? I must have spoken louder than normal, because the other people on the bus raised their hands. Later I discovered that they were all teachers.

  1. I had to admire the style of a certain "off duty" headmistress who was chairing a bench of magistrates. Appearing before her was a rather simple minded female who kept wittering on and on. Eventually the headmistress raised her forefinger in a commanding gesure and said: "No!  MY turn!"  It worked so admirably in stopping the flow that I've tried it on the odd occasion myself.

  2. I find that i have a certain tone of voice that sometimes creeps in at home. I did it the other night with my girlfriend, we both laughed.

  3. At my non-teaching job, one of my coworkers was given a can of pop by another coworker. Jokingly, I said to her, "are you going to share that with the rest of the class?"

  4. im not a teacher but i met my kids headmistress at a non-school social event and she still talked to everyone like she was talking to the kids clearly and simply.

  5. I might have said during a job interview once that the interviewee had to sit up straight and breath normally...

  6. wow...teachers are my nemesis but you sound alright!
