  1. i turn up at 6.30 as i drop my kid at daycare and have to get all my plannign and work done is school so that i dodnt take any work home.

i often leave around430 after ive helped kids/ worked with my mentee/ photocopied/  gone to a meeting

we are a charter school- we have no laws on how little/ a lot u work.

we are a top school and are very family orientated- most of us are parents with kids int eh school .  we watch out for each other.

  2. Not against labor laws.  The contract requires us to stay from 7:30-3:30...any other time put in before or after that isn't contracted and not paid and certainly not forced by the district because...it can't be.  I usually go early and stay late...my normal day is 7 until 4:30-5ish.

  3. The districts are not requiring us to stay. We stay because we choose to. Each day I am allowed to leave at 3:05, but I choose to stay a bit later. I stay until about 5:30 each day in order to get things ready for the next few days, grade papers, complete lesson plans, make copies, etc.

  4. Salaried emplyees are not covered by the same labor laws as hourly employees.  Basically, you do the work required.  However, most districts have negotiated basic work hours with their teachers' union, when you have to be at school.

Some teachers like to stay late to correct papers.  Others do their paperwork at home.

  5. I am a coach so I am at school from about 7:30am-9:00pm I dont worry about labor laws. I do it because I love it and I would do it for free.

  6. My typical day would be from 7:30 to 5:30.  The actual school day is 8:20 to 4:15.  I don't mind coming early or staying late because I use that time to make copies, plan assignments, grade, and tutor students.  We are salary not hourly.... and NO ONE is making me stay ---- I do it because it works best for me and my kids benefit from the extra time that I put in.

  7. I stay from 7:15 until about 5:00.  It is not against labor laws, teachers are salaried employees with contracts.  Plus, the school does not MAKE me stay.  I choose to stay, because that's what it takes to do a good job.

I could arrive and leave on time and do a crappy job, that's the choice that many choose to make.   It's really up to me.

  8. Labor laws dont apply - we do this because we want to.

I am in the classroom daily from 6:45 to about 4, then I take about an hours worth of work home. I also work 4 hours each weekend morning. Im not made to do it - I do it because thats what it takes to do my job effectively.

My contract only asks me to be on the campus 15 minutes prior to the students and 15 after they leave.
