I'm a high school student and I'm just curious as to what actions would be taken if I confided in a teacher at my school. Thank you.

  1. It depends.  By you telling me, you obviously trust me.  With that, I would try to help you get into some form of counseling with a person certified to counsel you in eating disorders.  While doing that, I would then encourage you to speak with your parents as you would need moral support and guidance and help from your family.   I'd even opt to sit with you and your parents while you told them what you were dealing with.  Hopefully you would take my advice and we could work together to get you what you needed.  The next steps I would take would be to talk to the school to determine if they could do programs on eating disorders so that other students would be able to get the support they needed as well.  If this situation is real for  you, then you should try to speak with an adult you trust would help you through this time.  If you can't speak with a teacher, you should really try to speak with your parents or another responsible adult in your family who could get you the support you needed.  Most important, you need to talk to someone.

  2. First, I would be glad that you confided in me.  Second, I would probably ask if you had told your parents about it.  Third, if you hadn't told your parents, I would encourage you to do so.  Eating disorders are common, yet they can also get out of hand quickly if not treated by a physician.  I would strongly suggest you tell your doctor... let a professional guide you through this... I'm only a teacher.

  3. I would talk with you privately and encourage you to tell your parents.  Then, I would talk with the guidance counselor to get some ideas on steps to take.  I definitely would encourage counseling and a visit to a physician.

  4. I would go out on a limb actually. As a high school student I am assuming it is hard if not impossible to talk to mom and dad about it. So, I would honor your need for privacy and give you advice on places to go to talk to someone who knows more about the subject and has a confidentiality clause. It isn't always neccesary to talk to mom and dad first. But, I hope you would in the near future.

Also, I would be available for you to just shoot the breeze. But, you would have to be sensitive to the fact we could not talk in a totally private (closed room) situation as it would open me up for SERIOUS trouble.

    I hope that makes sense.

  5. she may inform the school counselor

  6. he or she would probley contact your parents and get their consent for you to be seen by a councillor. or she might even have a conference with them to explain it and recomend you see a councillor and doctor.
