Teachers, what would your reaction be if...

...a student came to you and told you that he/she loves you?!

My kids tell me that all the time, but they're nine and ten.  I assume you mean an older student with more amorous feelings toward you.  I'd probably say, "That's sweet."  Then I'd change the subject and tell my principal.  I would try not to embarrass them but, would diffuse the situation immediately.

Document it on paper. Tell the student it's wrong to say such nonsense,  tell the counselor and my supervisor and call the student's parents for a meeting. With all the BS that goes on w/students and lawsuits etc etc  like Debra LaFave you need to be able to prove you're not a pedophile.

inw I'd come down on this like a ton of bricks and protect myself.

This is another reason why I don't want to teach h.s. Too much BS. I'm going to teach college.

My friend did this as a dare, and the teacher's awesome, they're both men and that doesn't matter but thought I'd throw it out there. The teacher told him he was flattered and I'm not sure what else. My friend regretted doing it after because he felt incredibly embarassed but what's done is done, and he doesn't go to the school anymore.

My students tell me that quite often. They're six and seven. I teach first grade. I'm a mother-figure to them. I even get called mom or mommy quite a bit.

I don't know what I would do if I worked with older students and one of them told me that.

Depends on the age.  My fourth graders said it and I did not think it was a big deal.  If it were a middle school or high school student, I think my reaction would be different.  I would say that it was flattering and promptly report it to the principal and guidance counselor.

I am not a teacher but I saw that situation on Degrassi once and it's just really always and awkward "I have no ******* clue why you just said that" situation...
