I am in teacher's college and I'm doing a presentation on teaching children with dissabilities. I need activities that would help children with dissabilities learn, interract, and have fun in the classroom. Let me know if you can think of any!!!

  1. The trick is to integrate kids with disabilities so they participate, with modifications, in activities with their non-disabled peers. The modifications required depend on age and disability type. A visually impaired kid, for example, may be able to participate in some ball games during gym, provided the ball has a bell or other noise-maker in it. A deaf kid may benefit from a sign language interpreter for when the class goes on a field trip to a local play.

  2. how about drawing/coloring? playing with toys maybe?

  3. one of my favorite activities is play dough potato head-

instead of using a plastic Mr. Potato Head-use a ball of playdough-

I was able to find body parts in a kit of playdough-or you can just take them out of the commercial Potato Head

    Teaches Body Parts/sensory skills

  4. physical activities are my favorite- they help keep many children engaged in the same task- cheap set ups can be games like laundry basket bsketball with koosh balls- keep scores on a white board- have one basket worth one point one worth 2- at the end have them add it all up- helpful to draw dots and have them count it- have them tell you who had the most points- I had a lot of behavioral kids so I would also verbally let them know I was doing a "behavior check" and at that time every kid that was being good got a smile and everyone who was misbehaving got a frown- then have them make a subtraction problem out of it- the # of smiles minus the # of frowns- the kid with the most points, and the kid with the most smiles both got a prize at the end

  5. how about preparing foods. such as salads and sandwiches things you dont have to cut or cook.
