Im just wondering because I am graduating next week and I don't want my band teacher to forget me. so I was just wondering do you ever think well they have graduated and a few years later you forget about them? or do you still love them unconditionally and always remember them?

  1. No, I remember every single one. Of course some you bond with more than others..but I still see most of mine (small town) and I will never forget them!

  2. I've been teaching eighth-grade for 11 years. My first kids are 25 now and many of them look completely different than when they sat in my classroom. At 100+ students per year I have more than 1100 students behind me, and I don't always recall their names when I meet them years later.

  3. After nearly 40 years, maybe I need prompting with a name, but I remember. I may not have thought about them in a long time, but I remember, and I'm always glad when they speak to me.

If you really want to make sure -- drop your teacher a card after you get to college and -- maybe a card that can be posted in the band room.

I always like to know how my students turned out (unless it's reading the Court Records in the paper.)

  4. depends on the kid...some were so great you hate to see them go...others were such a constant pain in the *** that a lobotomy wouldn't erase your memories of them...i tend to remember the kids that i coach more than any others because i spend the most time with them...i generally don't forget a kid's face, but i won't always remember their names...it is the best when a kid who was a real problem comes back and has turned it around or at least apologizes for having made your life so miserable...the worst is when you had a good kid who gets jammed up or just starts making bad choices and end up throwing away all the good work they did, this usually happens with my female students that end up getting pregnant in 9th or 10th grade...

  5. I teach middle school art and I have 140 students who don't really want to be there. I have trouble remembering their names when I see them out of my class let alone 5 years down the road!

There are those few that really got to me that I will never forget. I love what I do and they make it all worth it!

  6. Nope. I may not recognize them at first sight, but once they tell me their name and what grade I had them in, I remember.

It's the same with my teachers. Once I identify myself, they'll be like, "Oh yeah, you're Lyn! I remember you used to do ____ in my class"
