I'd like to look for a part time job at a tutoring center and am a certified teacher, however I have no idea how much they pay teachers per hour. I have a Bachelors degree and 3 years teaching experience.

  1. I interviewed at one once. the pay was ridiculously low.

  2. I worked at one for about a week. It was a bad experience. It did not pay anything and I did not like it at all.

  3. If I were you I would put out feelers for private tutoring. The hours are more flexible, the pay is waaaaaay better, and many parents prefer a private tutor for their little darlings. :)

  4. I worked at one while I was going to school.  The pay is relatively bad  for professionals and was low-end decent for a college student.  They did not take education or experience into account when determining pay.  I did not find it especially rewarding.  I certainly would not recommend it to any one I know who has already graduated.

  5. I worked for a small tutoring business and I made a very low percentage of the fee the owner charged.  I was not paid for prep time and it seemed as if there was never a goal to get the students to a point of not needing tutoring.

I have also done private tutoring on my own.  I made almost 3x as much as the center, set goals for my students and worked to the point that they could be caught up or independent.  Get fees in writing and have an agreed upon policy for cancellations.  Don't forget to factor in travel expenses if you are going to them.

    Flee from the centers!

  6. You are better off offering your own services to people to tutor.   They make hundreds of dollars per hour and pay around $10-12.   You can tutor children on your own and charge $40-50 for an hour.
