Question:

Teachers: How can I select books by theme and grade level?

I'm doing a project for my literacy class and have to prepare a themed unit. (I selected seasons of life) Now I need several books with this theme.

If you have any other helpful links to help with lesson plans, themed unit development, etc. please list them.

  1. On the following websites, you will find book lists by theme or by grade level.  Sometimes you will find books by both grade level and theme combined.  Good luck!

  3. I've compiled a list of links that should help you.

It's a great theme - but may be very complex. You don't mention the age of the group: it may be a bit too mature for young elementary.

There's a book on poetry that covers "Seasons of Life" as a unit from Evan Moore: EMC3326 - Read & Understand Poetry, grades 5–6

I also wasn't sure if you were talking about the stages of life or seasons. If you're talking about the stages of life, don't leave out Shakespeare's "The Seven Ages of Man" speech from "As You Like it".

There are several books that deal with death and dying including "The Tenth Good Thing about Barney" which covers the death of a child.

For just Seasons of Life as a cycle - think about "the Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.

    Good luck!
