Teachers having guns?

Question

A school district in Texas just decided to allow it's teachers to carry guns for protection. How do you feel about this? Would you feel more or less safe if your child was in one of these classrooms?

I feel it's just one more reason to homeschool.

Well, if a stranger ever went on campus, that would be better.

but i think it's not good. a kid could easily get a hold of it when they are just goofing around or really mad, and hurt people.

also, some teachers have big anger problems. i'm very sure you don't want angry teachers with guns taking care of your child.

I don't believe crossfire is safe for anyone. Leave the guns at home.

I looked at the link and it sounds good in theory..but it sounds like a recipe for disaster on so many levels.

On one hand it could get into the wrong hands.

Not all people (teachers included) are playing with a full deck...

But if it was needed to intervene a bad situation it could save lives.

Teachers have many pressures without this too..

Sooo.. have you considered home schooling ?

I think that it is okay if the school is in a dangerous area. My grandmother taught in Detroit for 45 years (she retired in 1993) and my mother teaches near Flint, MI. These are in the top 3 most dangerous cities in the United States. Teachers have been assaulted by students and a good portion of her students are in gangs. Several carry knives and a few carry guns. They are only for the teacher's own safety, which is imperative.

If a teacher is allowed to carry a gun for protection, they should pass a gun safety class and be certified, and hold a permit to carry a concealed weapon. While the teacher is in possession of the gun at school, it should be kept either in a locked drawer that s/he has the only key to (other than the administration) or in a holster that they carry themselves.
