Teachers of English?

Question

Is d**k and Jane still the best way of teaching English in first, second and third grades? I have the whole collection at school and kids hate those stories. Teachers get crazy when teaching reading. Do you guys still use those books??? The last coordinator said that american students learn how to read with them. I guess there must be another way.

No! Where I teach, using these books is considered outdated and not the best way for children to begin reading. I use Sight words to have my children begin to feel comfortable with words and then we begin reading based on results of spelling/reading inventories so I can see what a child knows about words and what books I should have them read, in reading groups. Do not use these books in your classroom!!!

No. Use modern books that have sight words. (There's billions)
