  1. Not really.  It can, however, be trying on days you are trying to play "catch-up" and that particular student is a talker/attention grabber.

  2. Well, depending on a lot of things.

    But, all in all, no.

Sometimes, it's the perfect opportunity for you two to talk a bit or have a bit of one-on-one interaction.

It's amazing what you can learn about people in moments like this.

  3. Absolutely not.  Some of my students have prior classes nearby and they arrive early. I see it as a good thing -- that they don't mind being in my classroom when they don't really need to be.  Plus it's always better than being late.

  4. Like the others said, it depends.  Is this student trying to get you to do some of his work for him/her?

If it is because they just get there early, then absolutely not.  It is a good time to give some personal attention.

Sometimes, you (the teacher) are the only positive thing they've got in their life.

How many of us love things or hate things because a teacher they once had??

I'll never ever ever forget my 7th grade German teacher who always took the time to talk to me.

Now I"m a German translator and teacher.  Thank you Mr. Oberg!

So you see, you can take this opportunity to make an impact in this child's life and make a difference that ripples forever.

  5. Strange question.  I would not find it strange, nor annoying, for a student to show up early for class.  The only way I would be concerned is if the student shows up so early that obviously he/she is tardy from another class to be early for mine.  Hmmmm, no, not annoyed.
